Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 7:00 p.m.

John Coltrane's birthday anniversary is celebrated with this rare meeting of two individuals who have devoted their lives to the study of his life and music. Researcher Yasuhiro Fujioka’s collection of Coltrane materials and photographs is unparalleled. He has been an essential contributor to two standard publications, including The John Coltrane Reference, a massive 848-page volume detailing all of Coltrane’s known activities and recordings. Saxophonist, composer, publisher, and scholar Andrew White is known as “The Keeper of the Trane”. Among many diverse accomplishments, his creation of the largest body of Coltrane solo transcriptions in the world has allowed performers and scholars to play and analyze this music. Mr. White is the author of numerous books including Trane ’n Me and his autobiography Everybody Loves The Sugar. Recital Hall (Performing Arts - Bldg. 46-West).
